Being diagnosed with kidney disease can be the one of the most devastating pieces of news that a person can receive in their life. That is often followed by hospital stays, doctors’ visits, and ultimately being told that you will probably have to start dialysis soon.
Once you start dialysis you’ll find that it’s not only tough on the body but it can also be tough on the mind too. That kind of pressure can definitely cause you to become frustrated with the whole situation and cause you to act outside of yourself.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Getting a Kidney Transplant
Getting a kidney transplant was one of the most exciting times of my life. It was also one of the scariest times. I was able to celebrate almost 5 years with that transplanted kidney before it rejected, but I don’t regret the experience one bit.
In my mission to share my story and well as the stories of other kidney warriors from around the globe, the video below highlights the journey of a person who is celebrating a 3 year kidneyversary, while at the same time knowing that the health of their transplant may be trending in a bad direction.

How Building the Right Team Will Help You Accomplish Your Goals
I remember the day like it was yesterday. I think I may have overmedicated on some blood pressure meds and my wife at the time had to practically drag me to the car to rush me to the hospital. At the hospital is where I got the most life changing news of my life. I was told I had end stage renal disease (ESRD), and that I would need to start hemodialysis that very day.
Without the help of my team: my then-wife, her family, my family, friends, and sometimes complete strangers, I would not have made it through those tough times.
That is when I realized that the key to me battling successfully against kidney disease would require a team effort from myself and the people in my orbit.
Here are some things about having the right team in your corner that I have learned along the way.
Teambuilding Is A Two-Way Street
We’re all the captains of our own teams and we must commit to pouring into our teammates if we want them to pour into us. That basically means don’t expect to receive any support, prayers, well wishes, or any of that kind of outpouring from your team if you aren’t willing to do the same in return.
Always Look for Chances to Improve
In my pursuit of better kidney health, better dialysis treatments, and ultimately a second kidney transplant, I’m always looking for opportunities to build relationships with people who will help me reach those goals.
Sometimes You Gotta Let Go
Not everyone on your team is going to want to see you do well and accomplish your goals. In those instances, you may have to consider cutting those people out of your life. I would be a hard thing to do but it may be the best thing for you going forward.
